New Poems
First poetry collection in over a decade Themes of love and loss prevalent Introspective reflections on life Explores nature and mortality Wide range of poetic styles

Dearly is Margaret Atwood’s first collection of poetry in over a decade. In it she addresses love, loss, the passage of time, the nature of nature—and even zombies. The poems are introspective and personal in tone but wide-ranging in topic, moving between intimate recollection, speculative asides, and sharp observational pieces. In poem after poem Atwood casts her unique imagination and unyielding, observant eye over the landscape of a life carefully and intuitively lived, testing memory, mortality, and the human capacity to keep meaning. While many readers know her for fiction such as The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments, and Oryx and Crake, Atwood has long been an accomplished poet; Dearly continues that work and offers new, varied poems from one of her most sustained poetic efforts.

What to Know Before Reading Dearly

Dearly is Margaret Atwood’s first poetry collection in over a decade, composed of poems that probe love, loss, the passage of time, the natural world, and even zombies. The book balances intimate, autobiographical tones with wry speculative and observational pieces, examining how memory, mortality, and language shape a lived life. Across varied forms and subjects, Atwood tests the limits of expression while attending to ordinary and uncanny detail, continuing the themes and concerns readers will recognize from her fiction alongside a sustained, personal engagement with lyric poetry.
