Diagnosed with Parkinson's at 29 Faced spinal surgery and recovery Reflections on family and friendship Struggles with time and mortality Inspiration from a medical crisis

Michael J. Fox, the actor known for Back to the Future, Family Ties, and Spin City, reassesses his trademark optimism in this memoir. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 29, he pairs memories from his career with reflections on illness, aging, family, and friends, and on how perceptions of time shape attitudes toward mortality.

Running through the narrative is a recent medical crisis: daily negotiations with Parkinson’s disease since 1991, a spinal cord issue that required immediate surgery, the challenge of relearning to walk, and a devastating fall that nearly caused him to abandon his optimism.

After decades with Parkinson's, Michael J. Fox faces spinal surgery and relearning to walk while a devastating fall threatens his trademark optimism.
